SURGICAL ORTHODONTIC TREATMENTS

Modern orthodontics has the ability to transform virtually any dental condition affecting the bite and smile. However, some skeletal discrepancies may require that we incorporate surgical correction to achieve the best bite, facial balance, alignment of the jaws, appearance of the smile and long term health of the teeth.  

Simply put, the upper and lower jaws are the foundation upon which the teeth are aligned. If the jaws do not coordinate -- due to excess, deficient or asymmetric growth – the ideal bite cannot be achieved with braces or clear aligner therapy alone. For patients presenting with these skeletal conditions, Dr. Schaefer will refer you to a highly qualified surgical expert to gain further information about the process and how we plan to coordinate the surgical and orthodontic treatment.  

Dr. Schaefer strives to fully prepare you and make the experience as smooth as possible. He will consult with you and the surgeon, sending the surgeon detailed records and x-rays. We will stay in constant communication with the surgeon through personal correspondence while we orthodontically prepare for the surgery. This team approach ensures that treatment goes smoothly from the beginning to end, resulting in the most predictable outcome.
